My reading and literacy courses focused on curriculum, classroom instruction, and assessment. I learned how students learned a new language and how I could assist them by using some best teacher practices. Because there are so many different learning styles and abilities in the classroom, I wrote lesson plans that could be adapted to address all students. I practiced administering and analyzing running records, guided reading, and other assessments that I use with students. The results of these assessments are used to guide my instruction in the classroom. One of my classes took me through a process of learning about my school's student performance level and how parent involvement can raise student achievement. I am on a Leadership team with my school now and am involved in the parent involvement plan.
